the cardboard box diet - week 2

{week one here}

this week was interesting - i started to notice very tiny changes in my body, physically, emotionally, and psychologically.

1. i definitely don't "look" any smaller and i'm not taking measurements so i can't be sure. but i feel better. i'm standing up a little bit taller. i feel like i don't have to suck in as much. feeling better about myself is one of the goals and i'm beginning to be on my way!

2. i've started to notice when i'm really hungry. not bored or sad or, well, mostly just bored. boredom is a huge trigger for me. so it has helped that i have been crazy busy this week! but i've made that connection and now i can be wary of that "hungry" feeling when i have nothing else to do.

3. i've stopped to think about how eating certain foods will make me feel. will i feel better about myself if i have a piece of reese's peanut butter pie (which i REALLY REALLY WANTED) or a skinny cow chocolate snack? i'm not going to lie - i had two bites of pie but i reallllly enjoyed them (i guess i could be totally awkward and say that i quite literally made love to the bites...) and then i had some skinny cow chocolate. and i didn't feel like i had undone an entire day of eating right!

WEEK TWO

weigh in:
starting weight 171.5
weight july 5: 168
weight july 12: 165
okay i kind of WAS expecting to lose a pound or two this week because i was really careful about what i ate. but three pounds was exciting!

exercise completed
i walked one day this week - it has rained nearly every day! :(

splurge/guilty pleasure
so let's talk about saturday. for starters my husband was out of town. i never do really well when chris isn't here. it is like if no one sees me eat it it never happened. secondly, i was busy all day, painting and packaging signs. so i didn't "have time" to cook something healthy. and third. zaxby's just opened and i have been dying to eat there. so i did. twice. :/ not the healthiest of choices by far but i did it, confessed, got over it, and moved on.

success stories
sunday night we had a welcome party for our new pastor at the church. i was already dangerously close to my calories for the day (taco bell on sunday is kind of a tradition but i had a cantina bowl - delicious FYI) and all they were serving was desserts. cakes, pies, cookies, cupcakes & brownies. i can do without the first four but the brownies? yum. HOWEVER, i immediately had a cup of coffee to get something in my stomach, and i didn't touch any of them. then i had two bites of pie (see above) when we got home.

about the hubs

ARE YOU READING THIS CHRIS? I AM SO PROUD OF YOU! PAT YOURSELF ON THE BACK!!

  1. Great job! 6 lbs is awesome! Remember that every 10 lbs equals a pants size so really by the end of this week, you're essentially there. Oh and Zaxby's is pretty amazing. BTW, don't get the salads or the grilled chicken sandwich. There are about 1200 calories in one of their salads and they marinate the grilled chicken in lard. They are way worse than the fried chicken. It's bizarre, but the Big Zax Snack is significantly less.

    1. I definitely checked out the Zaxby's website before I even went. I got the kickin chicken sandwich (on both visits... the shame...) which is 1000 calories for the sandwich and the fries. I will check out the Big Zax Snack next time I go!

  2. You're doing awesome!! 3.5 lbs down, good job! You know what, don't beat yourself up over the little bites of pie. Sometimes I think that's better than totally forbidding yourself from having it. Totally understand your husband being gone. My husband travels a lot for work and I tend to make lazy decisions when he is away...like eating cereal for dinner. Really nutritious. Your pasta salad looks tasty, so I might make that up soon :)

    1. Thanks Jill! I totally agree - forbidding myself something will only make me want it more. I'd rather REALLY enjoy something and have one small taste of it than completely binge and eat the whole pie. ;)

I hate when my husband is out of town. It is so much easier to just run and get something than cook anything for just me! We should keep in touch when they are gone and keep each other encouraged! :)

  3. Great job, and congratulations on the 3 lbs this week! It's funny how we don't see a change in our bodies, but we definitely feel it! Keep up the great work!

    1. I think I don't see a change because I look at myself every.single.day. I guess I need to start measuring and taking pictures so I can see the difference! :)

  4. Way to go! That salad looks great. It looks like something I could easily make up on Sunday night and eat at least through most of the week for lunches at work. Good idea!

    1. That salad was seriously DELICIOUS! I'm glad I threw it together. I will definitely be making it again... However I'd hurry and snatch up all the basil pasta ones you can find - the box says limited edition but I have no idea how long they will be available!

    2. Also - I can't comment on your blog because it makes me log in to wordpress and I don't have a WP account! :( Anyways - your recipes look DELISH and I'm going to have to find some of those 100 calorie english muffins STAT. :) Congrats on the 2.1 lbs!

  5. Good job!!!! I lost weight counting cals with the lose it app which looks similar to what yours is. It really really helped me! I've lost about 25 lbs and weigh less than I did when I got married 12 years ago which is pretty crazy! Took me a little over a year or so but so happy that I made that initial choice to do something about it. :)

  6. You did great this week. Great job in the 3 pounds lost! That's amazing. :)

"not the healthiest of choices by far but i did it, confessed, got over it, and moved on." <-- I think that's key in living healthier. Sometimes, we just have to indulge a craving! And move on from it. Sounds like that's what you're doing!

That pasta salad looks DELISH! I may have to try it for lunches next week. I struggle SO MUCH with lunch so I'm hoping these posts will give me some ideas. :) So thanks!

    1. One of my biggest roadblocks is myself! I get so discouraged if I have a splurge day and just decided to give up. I've ruined it ALL. BUT that is not the case. You get to start over the next day! :)

Did you see my salad post from Monday? http://www.neatheringourfest.com/2012/07/cbdiet-salads.html lots of great lunch ideas there :)

  8. Ok, the strawberries and salad look delicious! I will have to try the recipe ASAP! Way to go on the 3lbs lost! It's hard when we want to see results right away. The funny thing is, I feel the results right away, even if I can't always see them and I have to remind myself of that.

    1. I had good luck with the strawberries - they were so sweet! I even sliced one up and ate it on my sandwich one morning - it was just like having strawberry jelly but without all the extra calories!

I agree - when I consciously make a healthy choice I immediately feel better about it. That is what has kept me going!

  10. AWESOME girl! (and congrats to your hubs too!) I am in the same boat with the rain. But then again, last week when it was hotter than the surface of the sun, I was deterred as well, ha. I need to try those breakfast sandwiches, stat. Those are some of my favorite things.
